Key West Art & Historical Society presents: Roberta Marks

“Roberta Marks: a Retrospective,” a cohesive exhibition of nearly thirty years of her mixed media work, is to be on display at the Custom House Museum. Marks, whose work has won many awards and is widely collected and featured at numerous museums and galleries throughout the country, creates mixed media pieces via photographs, paintings, collages and constructions that investigate the mystery of being. Her constructions, fabricated using found, bought or gifted objects and materials, are portrayed as stage sets, representing the artist’s existence and personal landscape. The exhibit will open on Friday, 4/8 from 6:00-7:30, with special member VIP entry at 5:30 pm., Contact: 305.295.6616 x 112, Key Largo /4/09/2016, Native Plant Day: An Earth Day Event, Sponsored by John Pennekamp Coral Reef and Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Parks in celebration of Earth Day, this event is to be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, MM 102.5 Overseas Highway, oceanside. There will be informational booths from community organizations, concerned with the environment here in the Florida Keys. There will be a talk on using alternatives to non-native plants in our gardens, nature walks, and children’s activities. Native Keys plants grown by nursery volunteers are to be given away for planting at Keys’ residences. At 10:30 a.m., Florida Park Service Biologist Janice Duquesnell is to address participants at the Visitor Center & Aquarium auditorium in a one-hour talk entitled: “Native Alternatives to Non-Native Plants in Keys’ Gardens.” There will also be two 45-minute-long nature walks through the tropical hardwood hammock at 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., Contact: Elena Muratori 305-451-1202, Marathon /4/09/2016, 35th Annual Seven Mile Bridge Run, A field of 1,500 runners participate in the annual foot race across the longest of the 43 bridges that help comprise the Florida Keys Overseas Highway.
