We all come to Key West for the sun and amazing weather, right? Well, the beach is where it’s at.
Grab your sunscreen, a hat, and towel, and head to your favorite beach in the Florida Keys. It’s something everyone dreams about doing all year long, and the beaches in the Keys, you will always have a good time to be had – from volley ball games and Frisbee, to lazing in the sun, to just digging your toes in the sand and gazing out at the bright blue horizon. Work on your tan, listen to some tunes in your ear buds, or catch up on your book. It’s the perfect way to spend a hot, sunny day on this glorious, magical little island. Here is a list to:

Free beaches in the Florida Keys:

Anne’s Beach
Mile Marker 73.4, Islamorada
Benefit: A tranquil beach. A great place to stop and wade and stroll along a boardwalk through the mangroves.
Sombrero Beach
Directions: Turn south at Mile Marker 50 at the light (Publix Shopping Center) and follow Sombrero Beach Road for about two miles to the end.
Benefit: One of the best beaches for sand quality. Nice beach amenities; picnic tables and playground.
Veterans Park
Mile Marker 39.9, Big Pine Key
Benefit: A small beach and is sometimes busy. Easy parking.
Smathers Beach
South Roosevelt Boulevard
Key West
The beach stretches along South Roosevelt Boulevard.
Benefit: Lot’s of beach space. Lots of concessions: parasailing, wind surfing, paddle boards, kayaks and Hobie Cat rentals. Smather’s is known as a Spring Break/party beach and can be really busy and fun or quiet and private at the opposite end.
Higgs Beach
Atlantic Boulevard and White Street, Key West
Benefit: It’s right next to the long White Street Pier and the West Martell Tower.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Mile Marker 102.5, Key Largo
Benefit: Fun Beach. Lots of Snorkeling and play room. Snorkel around Spanish shipwrecks. Fee: $8 per car.
Harry Harris Park
Oceanside at Mile Marker 92.6. Follow the signs…so you don’t get lost.
Benefit: There is a shallow lagoon which is perfect for kids. Free on the weekdays; $5 on weekends.
Long Key State Park
Mile Marker 67.4
Benefit: Shallow beach great for kids. Fee: $5
Curry Hammock State Park
Mile Marker 56.2
Benefit: Beach goes deep fast, for the swimmers who want to reach deep waters easily. Fee $5.
Bahia Honda State Park
Mile Marker 36.8
Benefit: A favorite of the Florida Keys…and award-winning beach. Often voted the best beach in the Florida Keys. Fee: $8.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and Beach
601 Howard England Way, Key West
Benefit: Great snorkeling with a rocky bottom and lots of fish. Near beachfront cafe and a Civil-War era fort worth visiting. Fee: $6 per car.
